Joana + Bee- Gaithersburg Maryland Wedding

A Bride of the Month for the New Year! Congrats Joana! I couldn’t not pick this beautiful person. Joana is my style through and through. We experienced every emotion on her wedding day! From no sleep, to smiles, to tears they were all there. I had a blast though and her family was amazing to me the entire time.

I did makeup for 10 people including Joana and I am grateful we took a moment at the trial to talk about a design style for her bridesmaids. She had them in a beautiful coral so I popped one of my favorite lip stick colors on most of them; Tangerine from Laura Mercier mixed with a little gloss to tone the color down a bit. Some of the ladies brought their favorite lip color but they looked amazing and uniform once together! Joana wanted to look like herself but polished. If we were to go off of our new bridal styles I would put her in our Romantic Nudes Style with a little added corner smokey to her eyes. Lashes are a must have with those beautiful rose lips too. Loved this look!!

Thanks again Joana for being a fun and awesome bride. I wish you and your hunny the best of luck and I know we will be seeing more of each other! Cheers!

Husband Question: How did you guys meet? Joana and I went to different high schools in Montgomery County, her Gaithersburg High School, and I Magruder High school. We met through a mutual friend whom I used to work with and have become good friends. We first met at friends birthday party, and at first we didn’t like each other. I remember her loud laugh and her overall loud personality was something I had to get used to. We kept seeing each other at other outings with our friends, and on June of 2008 one of Joana’s friends was turning 21. I being the gentleman that I am, volunteered to be the DD for the night and got Joana home safe. That night, we ended up laying in bed together, just enjoying each others company and that’s when it started. I proposed On January 21, 2011 during our cruise vacation on the Allure of the Seas, and ended up going on the Oasis of the Seas for our Honeymoon!

Favorite Moment of the Wedding? Our favorite part of the wedding was when Joana was walking down the isle at the church. For me to see her for the very first time at her very best in the beautiful dress, hair done, and to realize she is walking to be with me for the the rest of our lives made me burst into tears with joy. For Joana to see me cry like that made her want to cry also, but she didn’t want to ruin the AMAZING make up job you did!

2013 Off to an Amazing Start!- Baltimore Sun Photo and Winning a 2013 Bridal Choice Award!

Well, I knew that we were going to rock it out this year but to be hit with some fun news right at the start of it always feels humbling!

To start, we were awarded Wedding Wire’s 2013 Bridal Choice Award this morning! In a nut shell that means that our brides selected us to be in the top 5% of the best wedding professionals in the state of Maryland! What an honor to be rated this for our second year in a row and all because of our happy brides. Again, humbling and greatly appreciated!!

Wrapping up 2012

Well its over. 2012 has finally came to a close and we are in full prep for 2013 Spring Bridal Season already. It moves fast doesn’t? I wanted to take a moment and share our overview of the year.

IT WAS AWESOME!

We had many accomplishments and met amazing brides this year and so with that we give a huge THANK YOU! to everyone who was apart of our awesome year.

Nicole and Mike- Baltimore Wedding at Frederick Douglass Isaac Myers Maritime Park

It has finally happened. 2012 is coming to an end. Thankfully I do not believe that the world is going to end so I must select a bride from our collection of wonderful clients to represent us for December! Enter- Nicole who was a bride on a mission to find a makeup artist who would listen to her needs and make her feel beautiful as her self. Congrats Nicole and Mike for being our feature for December!

To start off on a honest foot I want to say that Nicole was very nervous about makeup after having a bad experience. Katey and Ashley from Lemon and Lime Event Design advised her to send me an email and promised I would take care of everything. (thanks guys- so sweet) I talked to Nicole about our trial process and that we sit down with our clients and get the job right- even if it takes 2 hours. I sent my amazing artist Jordan Noel to take the lead and help Nicole design a look that will make her feel like her self walking down the aisle. After her trial I got this email:

I’M SOOO HAPPY!!!!!!! Jordan is awesome! HIRED!!! Send me the contract!! I’m so relieved!!!!!!!! Thank you so much!

Love it. That is what makes our jobs so rewarding. It has nothing to do with how many weddings we do a year. We really are true to our word of making you feel- Stunning, Flawless, and most importantly You on your wedding day. Cheers!

How did you meet? I was working a part time job at the time, and I was telling a co-worker, Jenn about another date gone horribly wrong! She said that she had a friend in mind that she wanted to hook me up with, and I told her that I was done dating! She pulled up Mike’s picture on Myspace (yes, Myspace!) and I said that I would consider meeting him. Jenn’s husband, Tony called Mike to tell him about me. We contacted each other and met at Grand Cru on Mike’s birthday on October 20, 2006 and drank espresso martini’s and laughed all night long. Actually, the date almost ended when Mike compared me to his mother, but quickly recovered with his charm and sense of humor! Apparently we both called our best friends after the date to tell them that we think we found the one!! Mike proposed on October 22, 2010 and we went back to Grand Cru to celebrate!

What was your favorite part putting on a wedding? Our favorite part of the wedding experience was seeing each other for the first time on our wedding day when I walked out of the large grey doors, then saying, “I do!” Our other favorite parts of the wedding was seeing all of the DIY projects come together and all set up thanks to our wedding planners! It was so fun to see the vision all coming together to create a romantic and vintage type of setting. We also had a fantastic time dancing the night away with our family and friends with DJ As-One spinning!–Nicole

WeddingWire Review Jordan from Maryland Wedding Makeup was phenomenal!! I was having a horrible time finding a make-up artist and actually had some bad experiences. My coordinators highly recommended Maryland Wedding Makeup, so I contacted them. Jordan came to my house for the trial and she made me feel comfortable telling her what I wanted and did not want. She even pointed out when I didn’t seem happy and wanted to fix what I wasn’t happy about! The trial was a success and we went with the 6 person package. Jordan came to my home the day of and made a group of beautiful women look even more gorgeous! Every single person was so happy with the results and they were all so beautiful! She finished on time and it was stress free!! Thank you Jordan for making my girls and I look stunning on my wedding day! I would absolutely positively use Jordan again!

We work towards these three words: “Smile, You’re Beautiful!” At Maryland Wedding Makeup, the team specializes in capturing the most special or memorable moments and finding out what makes our clients smile. From full on glamor to a natural polished look-our end goal is always the same; Be Stunning! Be Flawless! Be You!

What are you planning for Small Business Saturday?
We are going to offer a “Bring a Friend” makeup class special. We have learned in our profession that it is very important to have honest feedback when applying makeup, especially by someone you trust, (or, in your case, telling your friend nicely that they need to learn that a smokey eye look is not supposed to express a black eye) But it’s ok! We wont tell them you did that! We will, instead, guide you step by step on how to apply that perfectly blended smokey eye. We promise.

How will participating in Small Business Saturday impact your business?
As our business is primarily in the wedding industry, we would like to take full advantage of the ‘off’ season. It is fun to hang out and learn how to create a desired look with a group of friends. Class Syllabus- For Deal

Your Shape

I will provide all the eye shadows and makeup needed for this class. We will start by looking at example eye shapes and you will learn to identify which shape is yours.

Your Style

I will show and explain the three smokey looks. Color, Natural, and Black. As a group you will begin by selecting the one look you all want to learn step by step. This does not mean you all will be using the same colors but the style will be chosen as a group so everyone can learn together.

Your Tips

After the group selects their look I will give you direction on how to decide what products to use to achieve your desired look. Then, I will show you ways to hold a brush and which brush is used for what part of the face. If desired, I will make suggestions for things I think you are missing at home. We will do each step together as a group. Final step will be to put on eye lashes.

Your Help

After completion you will receive an eye face chart and a space where you can write notes on what you learned. I will answer all questions about what you learned.

Wow. Just simply, wow. I know I have been blessed with an amazing team of artists but our clients are just top notch. Thank you so much Melissa for your kind words and letting us be apart of your wedding day! Melissa decided on a natural makeup design with beautiful brows and kisses of color on her cheeks and lips. Our makeup Artist Jordan rocked the house that day with getting 9 of her closest friends and family beautified. To top off the fun- Hair for a Special Affair was there for all the amazing up-do’s! Question 6 this upcoming election in Maryland

You may not want to read this, its fine, but I needed to say something personal today before the upcoming elections. My Grandmother became ill a few weeks ago. If you have experienced the loss or a scare of losing your grandmother its painful in a different way. It makes the world stop and forces you to think and reflect on how they helped you grow and contributed to giving you life.

She is doing much better and I am hoping for the best with her recovery but it honestly hit me in the chest how much this beautiful woman changed my view on the world. Her secret is simple. Love.

I do not think people in the USA realize how good we have it. Growing up my grandmother would get hit in the hands because she was left handed and society thought that was wrong. She couldn’t voice her opinions for anything and learned whatever she could silently because she was a woman. Her god was chosen for her with repercussions if she disagreed. My grandmother fled the Ukraine when she was 12. Twelve years old on foot or any other means of transportation her family could afford to get through to Germany. When I think back to her striving to learn English so she could get her family to the USA makes me laugh softly at the stress I have every morning waiting for a coffee. Her family would pick berries in the woods so they could make jam to eat for breakfast. She lived in plain sight of Nazi Germans with out alerting them that they were not from there so they wouldn’t risk being discovered. So many frightening real moments where “I” could have just not existed if one thing went a different way and this all happened before she was 18.

Do you know what made her successful? Love. The simple yet complex word honestly drove her to be the one to get her family over here. Love brought her to work her heart out before seeing her family again. Love brought her to Baltimore. Love found her my grandfather. Love gave her 6 beautiful children. Love gave her me. Love gave her the courage to disown her son to protect the innocence of her two only granddaughters. Love gave her the strength to tell me things no matter how hard it was to hear. Her love gave me the foundation to understand loyalty and the importance of family. and love is why she is fighting so damn hard to stay here to continue to see us all grow up and hold her great grand children. Love. That’s it. It is the basis of everything in my life. Love really is it. Its what makes us human. Maybe there is a love gene no one knows about and that is what pushed us to experience all these other emotions that propelled us into the species we are today.

Why this rant about love. Because that is the reason I am confused about every statement against gay marriage. This has nothing to do with religion, beliefs, morals, nothing. We are talking about the core thing; Love between humans. If you have experienced the joy of getting married can you honestly tell someone to their face standing next to the person they love “no, you are not allowed to experience the joy of getting married like I did”. It becomes painfully real when you say something out loud. Do it…read it out loud to yourself and think hard about it.

I look forward to being able to say “marriage” and have it encompass every couple of every sex, gender, and race. . .Yeah, that sounds good to me.
